Anyone who has driven through the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique will have past within meters of one of the poorest communities in Zimbabwe. There is little employment and residents survive by selling fruit, vegetables, clothing, bundles of wood or any other commodity that will raise a few dollars. Prostitution is common. According to Anna from Sisters With A Voice, the average age girls start engaging in transactional sex is 16. Many of the girls are orphans and are forced into sex work to survive. The MHS Trust is applying for funding to provide safe sanitary wear for the ladies in this community. We may not be able to change much but at least we can bring a little dignity and security to these women who have few choices, great hardship and still get their period every month.
